This large toned silver medal commemorates 400 years of trade relations between The Netherlands and Japan. Michael Guilfoyle was commissioned to create an original design marking this momentous occasion.

Michael Guilfoyle was shortlisted to prepare a commemorative coin design marking the 25th Anniversary of Gaisce, the national youth award in Ireland. His design was chosen as the winning entry and the coin was struck in gold and silver Proof versions.

William Rowan Hamilton is one of Ireland’s most accomplished scholars and mathematicians. The 200th anniversary of his birth was commemorated here with a design referencing the mathematical symbols used within Hamilton’s extraordinary work. This was Michael Guilfoyle's first coin design for Ireland.
